Abstract

An extensive (more than 3 months) polymer injectivity test was recently performed in the Middle East. Polymer injectivity is a key factor that may limit the application of polymer as an EOR process. Here we have analysed the well test using simulation methodology derived from lab-to-field experiments.

The interpretation is based on analysis of BHP by injection rate variations both for water and later for polymer. The rheological signature on the BHP during polymer injection is discussed and matched with different rheological models. Simulations of the field performance gives insight into the rheological properties derived from the test observations.  We also present the experimental and theoretical background for the analysis and discuss the implication of the results.
