The Northern Lights JV DA is a leading CO2 transport and storage company and, as such, is paving the way for others that may come after. Many practices and processes followed in this project are either completely new or consist of needed modifications of standard Oil & Gas practices. The maturation of resources, namely "Storage Resources" in CCS, is one of those processes that needed adaptation.
The emerging CCS industry could greatly benefit from understanding the differences between standard Oil & Gas and CCS storage resources evaluation, classification, and maturation, especially when it links to the business models that a CCS company may choose. Furthermore, understanding the subsurface risks associated with this different way to deal with these new resources maturation process is key for the success of this new industry.
