The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Equinor Energy AS a drilling permit for well 31/5-7, cf. Section 15 of the documentation relating to storage of CO2 on the shelf.
Well 31/5-7 will be drilled from the West Hercules drilling facility in position 60°34'35.15"N and 3°26'36.15"E after concluding the drilling of well 6611/1-1 in the Norwegian Sea.
The drilling programme for well 31/5-7 relates to the drilling of wildcat wells in exploitation licence 001. Equinor Energy AS is the operator with an ownership interest of 100 per cent.
The area in this licence consists of parts of block 31/5. The well will be drilled about 17.5 kilometres southwest of Troll A.
Exploitation licence 001 was awarded on 11 January 2019. This is the first exploitation licence on the Norwegian shelf and the first well to be drilled in the licence.
The permit is contingent on the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to commencing the drilling activity.
