Dry well northeast of the Jotun field in the North Sea – 25/6-6 S

26/04/2019 Equinor Energy AS, operator of production licence 870, has concluded the drilling of wildcat well 25/6-6 S. The well was drilled in the Stord Basin northeast of the Utsira High, about 35 kilometres northeast of the Jotun field and 170 kilometres northwest of Stavanger in the central part of the North Sea.

The primary exploration target for the well was to prove gas in reservoir rocks from the Early Jurassic Age (the Statfjord group). The secondary exploration target was to examine reservoir rocks from the Middle Jurassic Age (the Hugin formation).

Well 25/6-6 S encountered the Statfjord group with a thickness of about 330 metres, of which 80 metres with reservoir rocks of moderate to good reservoir quality. The Hugin formation has a thickness of about 45 metres, of which 30 metres with reservoir rocks of good quality. The well is dry.

Data has been acquired and samples have been collected.

This is the first exploration well in production licence 870. The licence was awarded in APA 2016.

The well was drilled to respective vertical and measured depths below the sea surface of 3455 and 3506, and it was terminated in the Hegre group from the Triassic Age.

Water depth at the site is 123 metres. The well has been permanently plugged and abandoned.

Well 25/6-6 S was drilled by the Transocean Spitsbergen drilling facility, which will now proceed to production licence 159 B in the Norwegian Sea to drill wildcat well 6507/3-13, where Equinor Energy AS is the operator.
