30/05/2024 Aker BP drilled the dry well 24/6-5 “Alvheim Deep” in the North Sea.

Production licence 203 was awarded in 1996, and this is the eleventh exploration well drilled in this production licence. The Noble Integrator rig was used to drill this well.

There is considerable activity in this part of the North Sea, for example a discovery made in 2023 (25/7-11 S “Norma”). In addition to Aker BP, ConocoPhillips and DNO also have active production licences in the area.

The rig will now drill sidetracks in the Kneler deposit, one of the six deposits in the Alvheim field in the North Sea where Aker BP is also the operator.

Geological info

The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Intra-Draupne Formation.

The well encountered the Draupne Formation, but no reservoir was present. The well is dry.

Well 24/6-5 was drilled to a vertical depth of 4626 metres below sea level, and was terminated in the Draupne Formation in the Upper Jurassic.

Water depth at the site is 120 metres.
