02/10/2019 The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted consent to start up the Valhall West Flank facility in the North Sea. Start-up will take place this autumn.

This facility is a further development of the Valhall field. West Flank is an unmanned facility with twelve well slots, and it is tied to the Valhall field centre.

Valhall is located in the southern part of the Norwegian shelf, 290 kilometres from land. Aker BP is operator for the field.

The reserves are estimated at 9.6 million standard cubic metres of oil equivalents (approx. 60 million barrels). The reserve estimate is a median value, and indicates some uncertainty regarding how much can be recovered.

The investment estimate when the Plan for Development and Operation was submitted was 5.4 billion 2018-NOK.

“Valhall West Flank is an important measure for further exploitation of the resources in a mature field,” says Tove Francke, the NPD’s Assistant director for development and operations, North Sea South.
