Three companies have applied for a licence to store CO2
08/06/2022 When the application deadline expired on 1 June, the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (MPE) had received applications from three companies that are interested in awards of acreage suitable for future storage of CO2.
The area was announced in April, and comprises defined blocks in the North Sea.
The companies that have applied are:
- CapeOmega AS
- TotalEnergies EP Norge AS
- Wintershall Dea Norge AS
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) will review the received applications and provide our assessment to the MPE. The MPE aims to award acreage pursuant to the CO2 Storage Regulations during the last half of 2022.
This is the third time acreage will be awarded to store CO2 on the Norwegian shelf.
The invitation provides a more detailed description of the authorities’ criteria and the process for awarding acreage for CO2 storage on the Norwegian shelf.
